A No-Nonsense Formula for an Amicable and Respectful Divorce in New Jersey

When you hear the word “divorce”, what automatically comes to mind?

Chances are, it’s not a pretty picture.  After all, divorce is one of the most anxiety producing events in life.  Ending a marriage is painful.  You go through a grief process, yet many people suffer in silence.  It is not unlike the grief when someone close to you dies, only then, others typically offer an abundance of emotional support.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.  In my experience, you deserve the emotional support and solid advice when you need it most.  You deserve dignity and respect, as we all do.  That’s why I created a formula designed to take you from where you are to where you want to be.

With close to 20 years of experience exclusively in divorce and family law matters, I am committed to representing each and every client with respect and dignity.  To truly listen and understand who they are and what they need and confidently guide them.  To understand that their children are the number one priority.  To give them answers and options clearly and honestly without legal-ease and give them the facts about costs and how they can keep costs down.  To empower them with certainty and confidence in the final outcome.

Let’s face it, issues such as where the children will live, how much financial support to provide them with, including payment for college expenses, how to divide the home, hard earned retirement and other financial assets are extremely personal in nature.

Yet simply because spouses find it difficult, if not impossible, to resolve these issues on their own, they often believe that they have no choice but to defer to the court to make such personal decisions for them.

That’s why we offer a unique alternative to the traditional divorce process to which most lawyers default.  We’ll design a customized strategy to go about settling your divorce amicably and avoid the often costly and acrimonious divorce court process:

  • We identify the assets and income you have, how much money you will need, what you are legally entitled to, and which legal and financial options will work best for you.
  • We offer creative ways to allocate the marital assets between you and your spouse that take into account the applicable financial and tax ramifications.
  • Where there are business interests, traditional pension or other retirement plan, or compensation incentives such as stock options or performance stock units, you’ll get “the best bang for your buck” with professionals such as accountants, actuaries, or financial planners in our go-to robust network of contacts and connections.
  • I offer coaching on little known powerful strategies and techniques for effectively communicating with your spouse to maximize the likelihood of reaching agreements on such issues as child custody and parenting time, child support, payment of college costs for your children, alimony, and division of assets and debts.
  • You will learn how to develop a working relationship free from conflict and better equipped to successfully co-parent your children.
  • You can also select specific services, saving costs by paying for only what you need.  For example, I can help you deal directly with your spouse and get things settled with minimal involvement from us.

Essentially, control is handed to you instead of to the court.  We do everything in our power to achieve the result that you want.  We help you control the costs, minimize conflict and stay in charge of your outcome.

If you’re like many of our clients, you might feel “I don’t want to break up my family in a nasty divorce where I can stand to lose everything I’ve worked for” or “I’m very worried about what a divorce will do to my children.”  “I’m worried it’ll get ugly with lawyers involved.”   I understand.  One lawyer takes action, the other responds, you and your spouse get sucked into the conflict and it’s off to the bitter and costly races.  But waiting to call until it gets “really ugly” can be a costly mistake with long-term consequences.

Maybe you’ve decided to wait until your spouse files for divorce.   The short time you have between receiving a divorce complaint in the mail and being required to take immediate legal action is not the time to start looking for answers.  You need clear answers now.

You also might be fearful of being overwhelmed and rationalize “things aren’t really so bad” or I’ll stick it out until the kids are older.”

Or perhaps you feel overwhelmed in thinking you can’t afford the fees for a lawyer or a lawyer will take all your money and you don’t know how to avoid that.

You might feel that you don’t need a lawyer right now.  Lawyers have specialized knowledge and skills and divorce law is full of technical rules and procedures.  If you don’t know all the rules, you risk losing what’s important to you.  You can also help prevent certain problems from ever arising, which can save you stress, money, and time.

It might be that you don’t know how to find the “right” lawyer.  If so, you might take a look at my blog on this topic.

If you have questions about how this process would work for you, all you need to do is simply call us.  We’ll set up a confidential, in-person meeting where we can sit down and talk about what happens next.

We’ll discuss your situation, your family, and the things that matter most to you.  You will come away with a concrete action plan and a complete understanding of your rights and options.  You will have the information and confidence to make the decisions you need to move on with your life.

Thank you very much for reading this post!
